If nature could talk what would it say? Would this shout for attention? That the animals disappear, the rainforests, the coral? And what does this look like visually? These questions were a source of inspiration for Tubien to start the 'Nature Calling' series after a backpack trip in Asia.
Tree Spirits - If trees were people, would we cut them down? brings Tubien's worries about climate change closer to home. Tubien feels a strong connection with trees; for her every tree is one, as if trees are individuals with their own soul and character. In addition, the forest is a place where she feels free of all the restrictions that society imposes on us as humans and where creativity flourishes. The destruction of this is therefore disastrous in several ways. Even now Tubien wants to work in layers, to show the individuality of each tree and to give every tree a place and space. That way they get a voice.
